Baseball:
Spearheaded by numerous all-district players, namely seniors Charlie Vitale, Ryan Dickt and Ben Coffman, the baseball team is looking to redeem itself after losing in the district championship last year to rival Yorktown. After a very productive season, going 18-7 and winning against heavily favored Stonebridge in the first round of regionals, the team is looking for new players to step up and fill the holes from seniors who graduated the year before.
Varsity coach Mr. Doug Grove is optimistic about the upcoming season, stating that there is a lot of talent amongst the sophomores and juniors playing their first season on the varsity roster. These new players will be thrown into some of their hardest competition in years, kicking off the season with McLean followed by games at Robinson and Langley.
Softball:
After having a rebuilding, but successful, year in 2010, going 11-3, the softball team is ready to compete in the district, returning with several younger players, including sophomores Jenny Peel and Grace Evans, along with upperclassmen junior Brooke Rippy and senior Jen Berry.
Head coach, Mrs. Carolyn Majowka, was named coach of the year last season, and seven members of the team were named to all-district teams, leaving the experienced team well-prepared for the upcoming season. “We have a lot to work toward this year and I’m really excited,” said Rippy.
The team kicks off its season on March 15 at 6:30 p.m. in a face-off against Chantilly.
