At last, the cherry blossoms are out, and it is officially spring. Roads in the capital are swamped with tourists visiting Washington, D.C.’s famous, beautiful cherry blossoms. Picnics fill every park, and hikers are on every mountain. This season also brings a new wardrobe along with new weather and trees. Clothing shops are revamping their items into light, airy fabrics, floral prints, and pastel colors to capture the spring vibes. We interviewed four of the school’s fashionistas, asking what inspires their outfits, what motivates them to dress nicely for school, and how the seasons affect their clothing choices.
Kimi Chacon, a sophomore at the school, had a lot to say about what truly inspires her fashion choices.
“Ever since I was a child, my parents have always raised me to look presentable no matter where I go,” Chacon said. “My parents have a huge influence on what I wear, but so do I. I love dressing for the seasons, especially spring and winter.”
Calla Triplett, a freshman, shared her thought process before choosing each of her outfits.
“What I wear truly just depends on the weather, because the weather during spring really is bipolar,” she said. “If it’s a gloomy, rainy day, I’ll wear grey, black, or other dark-toned colors, with, obviously, a hoodie or rain jacket. On a sunny day, I would wear bright and vibrant colors, but you know how the weather is bipolar during spring.”
Haya Malik, an activist and fashion enthusiast at the school, loves to incorporate her femininity and culture into her outfits while blending them with current trends.
“I try to always look as presentable as possible wherever I go. It makes me feel confident and powerful,” Malik said. “During spring, I love to bring out my warm-weather clothes from seclusion and finally wear floral dresses and skirts.”
One of the most popular trends during spring is wearing bright or pastel colors. Soft shades like baby blue, light yellow, lavender, blush pink, and more are perfect for a light, airy look. Pairing these pastel colors with more neutral tones can create a nice, approachable style. One trend that is making a comeback is floral prints. From dresses to blouses, they are the go-to prints for spring, representing the blossoming of nature, including the cherry blossoms. Accessories also play an important role in spring fashion. Colorful sunglasses, woven bags, and hats help elevate an outfit while providing practicality.
Natalia Colocho, a freshman at the school, says this is her favorite time of year because of the fashion and weather that come with spring.
“I love spring because it is genuinely when I’m the happiest, mostly because of all the flowers and designs that come with it,” Colocho said. “I like to dress up because it reminds me of my childhood. My mom used to love dressing me up for spring.”
Spring fashion is not only about aesthetics; it is also a way to express creativity. As the days get warmer, our style begins to blossom, and we reflect the beauty of the season.
