Throughout your school life, you might have found a class that you really enjoy or that inspired you in some way. It might have made you find a new hobby, make new friends, or just have been an interesting topic.
By the time senior year arrives, most students have taken dozens of classes, but only a few stand out. There are certain classes that leave a lasting impact on students, even years after taking them.
Seniors commented on classes they liked and found inspiring.
“Some of my favorite classes would be International Baccalaureate (IB) Design Tech, IB Sports Medicine and Astronomy,” Gavin England said.
“For me, [I would] say probably Psychology and Anthropology,” Brooks Clements said.
For classes that inspired seniors the most, England notes his senior project in IB Design Technology.
“In [IB Design Technology], we learn about design and how it plays a role in engineering, and we make a senior project. My project was about barbell collars for weight lifting, and different ways they could latch on to the barbell while also being adjustable.” England said.
Nate Bergmann recounted how AP Computer Science showed him the potential of programming.
“[The class that inspired me the most is] probably AP Computer Science,” Bergmann said. “It was the first advanced computer science class I took, and because of that, I got to see the possibilities that programming and computers can have.”
Gus Goldner thinks that IB Global Politics was particularly inspiring, noting his Internal Assessment (IA).
“[The class that inspired me the most is] IB global politics. You learn about current events, how countries interact and power,” Goldner said. “[It is] just a fun class, and I like the teacher, Ms. Kelly. It inspired me to look at the world differently and how the topics in the class apply to the world. We had an IA, and we had to write a paper on an issue of our choice and we had to engage with it. For my engagement, I interviewed a bunch of people and got their perspective on the topic.”
Clements notes how Physical Education (P.E.) inspired him to push himself athletically.
“[The class that inspired me the most is] sophomore P.E. My teacher and classmates really pushed me to get stronger and more athletic. Now I’m committed to go play in college, and that class definitely helped me develop my aspirations to work harder.”
The seniors also talked about things that they liked and disliked about their favorite class.
“I really liked the teacher [for IB Design Technology],” England said. He can be really relatable. Something I don’t really like about the class is the workload, as it can be a lot if you [do not] stay caught up,”
Goldner discusses how IB global politics involves a lot of social interaction.
“I like how interactive it is. There are a lot of debates and interactions. I [can not] really think of anything I dislike,” said Goldner.
Clements noted that he liked P.E because he is an active person; however, he disliked the warm-ups.
“I liked it was very physical, as [I am] a very active person. For dislikes, I disliked warm ups, as it takes too long,” said Clements.
Finally, the seniors wrapped up by giving advice to those considering taking these classes.
“[I would] say that you should go for [IB global politics]. Even if [you are] not an IB student, [it is] a really fun and interesting class to take.” Goldner said.
